From Audrey to Zoey

The Iowa Hawkeyes had their first home football game yesterday which meant Audrey’s job of letting our friend’s dog, Zoey, out in the afternoon started back up again – although I don’t know for how much longer she’ll be employed since they’re due to have their first baby in 2 weeks! Audrey loves dogs and babies so I’m not sure which she’s more excited about: seeing Zoey on Saturdays or going to visit the new baby!

A Dog, Is Not A Dog, Is Not A Dog

Anyone who knows dogs knows that personalities of different breeds can be very different. No matter what breed, though, training and socializing at a young age are very important. This leads me to my daily rant:

Mike was outside and a neighbor with a German Shepherd Dog was walking down the sidewalk. We both love German Shepherd Dogs…he used to have one…so he approached the owner cautiously (because he didn’t want to frighten the young dog). The dog aggressively growled and barked at him and refused to even take a treat from his hand. Then the dog lunged at a jogger passing by. After this happened, the owner said, “I don’t know what’s wrong! Our Lab NEVER acted like this.” Hellooo…your dog isn’t a Lab. It needs more training than you probably had to give your Lab. It saddens me that this dog will most likely not receive the proper socialization/training he deserves and will continue on the stereotype that German Shepherd Dogs are mean. Poor guy.

Thankful: Day 24

I’m thankful for my family…and that Audrey did not try to bring Piglet outside to be in our picture…and that it only took us about 5 tries with the camera mounted on a tri pod using the timer to get this picture (along with a little Photoshoppery).

Thankful: Day 21

I got to hold a puppy today. I’m thankful I got my puppy fix…and for the good night’s sleep I’ll get since the puppy didn’t come home with me!

Thankful: Day 7

This is my baby girl, Mei-Mei. She is 13 1/2 years old. Mike’s dad & step-mom got her for Mike (us) as a Father’s Day present a few months after we were married and picked one of her litter mates for themselves. Mei-Mei is ALWAYS happy to see me when I get home, never blows me off when I ask for smooches and gives good hugs. She’s also my foot warmer when I’m working at the computer or on my latest craft project. Last summer Mike had to rush her to the animal ER because she got some weird inner-ear infection and was so dizzy she couldn’t stand up on her own. It was quite a scare! Luckily she’s over that now, although she still turns her head to the left a little bit now and then. She’s also gotten very hard of hearing because of her old age, her eyes a little cloudy so I don’t know how well she can see and she snores really, really loud. She’s my precious little girl, though. We’ve been through a lot together and I don’t know what I’d ever do without her!

Thankful: Day 2

I’m thankful today that Mike dressed up like a cowboy for Halloween and took Audrey & Leo trick-or-treating so I could stay home and sass the kids who came to my door seeking candy. Yee-haw!

Ready to rustle up some candy!

Chicken Soft Paco

We (not me) designed a logo & created signs & menu boards for a new taco cart opening in the pedestrian mall in downtown Iowa City. The name of the cart is “Paco’s Tacos.” When I first heard this I didn’t really believe it was true! When I met Mike he had a dog named “Paco.” It’s a given that all dog owners have nicknames for their dogs. Two of Paco’s nicknames were “Paco Taco. ” and “Chicken Soft Paco.” His name is now living on in a taco cart in Iowa City!
