Tonight is Chinese New Year’s Eve. Tomorrow starts the Year of the Rabbit. The forecast for the coming year (according to The Holiday Spot)  is “a placid year, very much welcomed and needed after the ferocious (and full of change) year of the Tiger. We will act with discretion and make reasonable concessions without too much difficulty.” And my favorite part: “Money can be made without too much labor.”

Some of my favorite superstitions to follow:
-Display tangerines for luck.
-Always serve a noodle dish but make sure not to cut the noodles before serving, otherwise you’re snipping your life short.
-Don’t serve squid or tofu. The chinese word for squid is the same as the word for being fired from your job, and tofu is white which symbolizes death for the chinese.
-Make sure your house is clean to make room for the wishful in-coming good luck.

Happy New Year, everyone! And farewell to the ferocious year of the Tiger.
