On September 5th (our 11th wedding anniversary) we journeyed downtown Chicago with my sister and her daughter, Maggie. The day started with a long-awaited meal of Dim Sum at The Phoenix restaurant in Chicago’s Chinatown followed by a quick stop at a neighboring Chinese bakery. I never would’ve believed Maggie could eat so many sponge cakes in a 24-hour period if I hadn’t witnessed it with my own eyes!

After our bellies were full we toured Shedd Aquarium. Audrey & Maggie got sea-life painted on their arms, we saw dolphins, sharks, even an anaconda. The most frightening part of the day was at the beginning of the show at their Oceanarium: a Red-Tailed Hawk training demonstration. Of ALL things to have at an AQUARIUM!!!

After the aquarium we headed north to American Girl Place. Auntie Becca told the girls if they had been good all day they would be able to pick ONE THING at the store. Well, one thing turned into 2 (an outfit which included stick-on earrings) and a new hair do at the American Girl salon. The girls were both very good all day and everyone was exhausted when we finally got home that night. Thank goodness it was a long weekend so we had an extra day to recover!
